07 Dec 4×4 Rooftent Adventure: a Perfect Family Holiday
4×4 Rooftent Adventures for Families
We’ve been hosting many families on 4×4 rooftent adventures with us. However, there are still families who perceive exploring in a 4×4 as unsafe or too challenging. So, we’d like to explain why a 4×4 adventure is safe and enjoyable for kids.
1. Traveling and Exploring as a Family
You’ll be together at all times, spending quality time with your kids. Whether you’re 4×4 driving, exploring, cooking, or sleeping, it’s a shared experience. If your kids go to sleep in the family rooftent earlier than you, they’re safely tucked away in the rooftent while you enjoy your wine and gaze at the stars with your partner.
2. Your Kids Stay in Sight
You can park your 4×4 with rooftent in remote areas, where you choose the area most suitable for your family. The kids can explore within eyesight and return to the 4×4 with rooftent anytime. When walking and exploring together, it’s easy to return to the car when needed.
3. Sleep Together in our Family Rooftent
Our family rooftents, measuring 200×240 cm, easily accommodate 2 adults and 2 children aged 0 to 10. For bigger families we have extra ground tents for either 2-3 or up to 6 persons.
4. Make Contact with the Locals
Kids easily befriend other children, facilitating your connection with local families. On many occasions, families have been invited to someone’s home, allowing kids to spend time with local children and form lasting friendships to cherish.
5. Flexibility Is Key
Easily adapt your plans based on how you and your family feel that day. Whether you prefer exploring the area hiking, visiting a town, or parking the 4×4 and going to a pool, you have everything with you and can change plans at any time!
6. It’s a Shared 4×4 Roadtrip Adventure
“As a family, we have been on multiple 4×4 rooftent family trips together and we have always loved it. The first trip was when our boys were 6 and 8 and they were the perfect age to explore and play around the car and get rid of their energy. We would explore and hike the areas together. With the 4×4 and rooftent we feel safe but adventurous at the same time. When they got older we also let the boys decide what they want to do or where they want to go. I believe the times on 4×4 rooftent adventures have really taught my boys that travel, exploring and camping is fun and I will be happy to see that when they get older they are less afraid of the world and it’s adventures.” – Michael from Germany.
Things to Consider Before Going on a 4×4 Rooftent Family Adventure
Establish Rules for Small Kids in the Rooftent
Ensure there are rules for small kids in the rooftent when they want to get in or out. For younger kids who need help with the ladder, zip up the tent and agree that only you can open the zipper when they are inside. If they are old enough: assist your kids the first time(s) they go up and down the rooftent ladder. After that, they are often better at climbing the ladder than you!
Limit Driving Time
Avoid driving for too long, as kids can easily get bored. There’s plenty to see outside, with many stops to explore. Keep the driving to a maximum of 2 or 3 hours a day. If you drive more than that, make sure you have entertainment available in the car.
Prepare the Kids in Advance
Get the kids excited about the trip by preparing them in advance. Let them think along and explore the guidebook together. For every country, we offer off-road guidebooks that you can use to plan the trip together.
Consider the freedom of a 4×4 rooftent adventure for your next family journey!
